Our commitment

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard and respected.

Safeguarding guides how Ayola designs programmes, works with schools and communities, and shares children’s stories.

Our safeguarding promise

Ayola is committed to creating learning spaces where children are protected from harm, treated with dignity and able to participate without pressure. Adults involved in our work are expected to put children’s wellbeing first.

Consent and child assent

We seek written consent from a parent or guardian where required. Children are also given age-appropriate information and asked for their own assent. Participation should be voluntary and children should feel able to ask questions or decline.

Safe participation

Sessions are designed to be respectful, inclusive and suitable for children’s ages. Activities should never shame, frighten or pressure a child, and concerns raised during participation are treated seriously.

Photography and film

Images and recordings are made only for an agreed purpose. We seek the necessary parent or guardian consent and the child’s assent, and we avoid captions or presentation that could expose, embarrass or misrepresent a child.

Speaking up

Children and adults should be able to raise a concern without fear. Ayola will listen, record concerns appropriately and take action through the relevant school, community or statutory safeguarding route when needed.
